What is an embedded system? An embedded system is one that automates a process behind the scenes with little or no user input. I like to refer to it as “Life Automation”. Let’s think about a washing machine. The operator puts the dirty clothes in, chooses the wash setting, and walks away. The washing machine does the rest. Embedded systems can be a standalone device such as in a coffee maker or a home thermostat. Or they can also be part of a more complex network of systems like the anti-lock brake system on a vehicle, which is a small part of the vehicle's entire computer network . Creating a successful embedded system is about truly understanding the processes required to achieve the desired outcome.
